COMMUNITY CENTER
Competition with JTRV Project | Seoul, South Korea 2019
The design ambition for the project was to transform the program requirements into a building that blends modernity with tradition. Half of the program was dedicated to meeting Seoul's strict parking requirements. To break up the mass of the parking volume, we incorporated a series of mini parks that inject life into what would otherwise be a dead space. We chose a simple post-and-beam aesthetic for the community center, which is common in traditional Korean architecture. We created a dynamic composition by playing with cantilevers and stacked spaces, with mass timber as the design's backbone.
