MAC PANAMA
Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Panama City, Panama
Designed for the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAC) in Panama City, the new museum is conceived as a civic sanctuary where monumental cast-in-place concrete architecture merges seamlessly with tropical landscape.
Anchored by a sculpted entrance portal, the building steps down in planted terraces that mediate between the dense urban skyline and the surrounding park. Perforated concrete walls filter intense tropical sunlight into rhythmic patterns of light and shadow across the interior galleries and circulation ramps.
At the heart of the museum, a multi-level skylit atrium rises above a tranquil reflecting pool. Criss-crossing concrete stairs and bridges animate the central void, connecting exhibition halls, educational studios, and a ground-floor café while fostering visual dialogue across levels.
Crowning the structure, a lush rooftop sculpture garden and shaded colonnade provide an open-air civic terrace for contemplation, events, and panoramic views toward the Pacific Ocean and Panama City.
